Jennifer Aniston to Bring New Perspective to ‘9 to 5’
Jennifer Aniston is set to inject fresh energy into the iconic 1980 film ‘9 to 5’.
The star of “The Morning Show” is stepping into the producer’s role for a modern reinterpretation of the classic movie, which originally featured Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Jane Fonda. This information comes from The Hollywood Reporter.
Aniston will spearhead the project through her production company, Echo Films, collaborating closely with her partner Kristin Hahn. The screenplay is in the capable hands of Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody, known for her work on “Juno”, “Jennifer’s Body”, and the recent film “Lisa Frankenstein”, starring Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton.
Noteworthy projects produced by Aniston’s company include “Murder Mystery 2” with Adam Sandler, “Dumplin'”, “Cake”, and “The Switch”. The InSneider was the first to report the news of the women’s involvement in the remake.
Jane Fonda revealed in 2018 that a sequel to ‘9 to 5’ was in development, with her, Tomlin, and Parton set to reprise their original roles. The sequel initially gained momentum when Rashida Jones and Patricia Resnick joined the project as writers. However, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Parton disclosed that they had ultimately decided against pursuing the project.
“We probably won’t be doing the sequel,” Parton said. “We just couldn’t develop a script that was sufficiently different from the original, which turned out so well.”
The original film chronicles the revenge plot hatched by Parton, Fonda, and Tomlin against their sexist boss, portrayed by Dabney Coleman. To this day, ‘9 to 5’ remains one of the highest-grossing comedy films ever, and it inspired a Rita Moreno-led sitcom in the 1980s, as well as a Broadway musical in 2009.
